Sea Dragon Energy, Inc. celebrated a major milestone in its mission to transform seawater into strategic aviation fuel, marking the production of its first synthetic fuel and the ceremonial dedication of its research and development facility within the National Energy Lab Hawai’i Authority (NELHA) Hawai’i Ocean Science and Technology (HOST) park located in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. Government dignitaries, community leaders, technology partners and invited guests joined Sea Dragon Energy for a traditional Hawaiian Maile Lei ribbon untying and blessing ceremony and got a firsthand look at the company’s emerging fuel-production technology.

“Today’s milestone represents an important step in Sea Dragon’s proof-of-capability program,” said John Kohut, Chairman and CEO of Sea Dragon Energy. “Producing our first fuel demonstrates the advancement of our efforts to develop distributed, modular, and scalable systems capable of producing fuel at or near the point of need.”

Sea Dragon’s mission addresses a critical challenge for military operations and remote communities: the dependence on extensive, often vulnerable fuel-supply chains. By developing technology that produces drop-in aviation fuel from seawater and power, the company aims to reduce logistics burdens, strengthen fuel independence and enhance operational readiness.

“This is just a beginning,” added Kohut, “not a finish line. Our next challenge is to continue integrating and refining these technologies, demonstrate reliable operation and scale the capability toward maritime and ultimately operational deployment. The opportunity is much bigger than producing fuel. It’s about giving our military greater freedom to operate.”

Guests were also led on a tour of Sea Dragon’s applied R&D facility where company engineers explained the equipment and processes used to recover carbon dioxide from seawater, produce hydrogen through electrolysis and synthesize those components into liquid hydrocarbon fuel. The tour highlighted how multiple critical technologies are being brought together into an integrated system designed for future scale-up. And the Hawai’i location provides an important environment for Sea Dragon’s development work, combining access to seawater resources, supporting research infrastructure and a strategically significant Pacific location.

With the first-fuel milestone achieved, Sea Dragon’s development program will focus on further system integration, testing and optimization, followed by maritime scale-up and the longer-term objective of deploying distributed fuel-production capabilities in support of military operations.
